Ziplining and Your Business

Among the experiences we had at PRO U’s very first PEAK Mastermind Retreat was a ziplining adventure over the jungle canopy of Costa Rica.
Credit Rich Reed, PRO’s director of event services, for pulling it all together. Credit the community for its spirit of adventure. Even David Bach was out there wearing the world’s most unflattering helmet and harness while speeding along the wire attached to two ancient trees.
What did it take? A little courage. Some faith. And a lot of trust in the natives who helped us along the way.
PRO’s Master Leadership Mentor Justin Woolf made an analogy between the experience of ziplining and the building of an entrepreneurial business.
Life is a zip line. You want to get from point A to point B and you draw a line to get you there. You’re not going to get to where you want to be by being who you are today.
And while we started out close to the ground, by the middle of the adventure the drops became more jaw-dropping while the zipping came easier. Many adopted the Superwoman pose because hey, it’s not every day you get to experience the feeling of actually flying over the jungles of Costa Rica.
Here again, there’s the analogy of needing to start small and master the first steps before gaining the confidence to go further and farther, just as in business.
Even Woolf confessed to being a little bit leery of letting go of terra firma on his very first zip. But by the time the contingent had reached the end of the zip line, the most hesitant in the group had become the leader.
Turns out everyone had something they were a little bit afraid of – and just one person opening up gave others license to share their own trepidations and to bond over the experience.
Marketing Mentor Aaron Rashkin noted that the easy playful confidence of our Costa Rican guides also gave our group the confidence to go the whole way.

Truer words have never been spoken! “Life is a zip line. You want to get from point A to point B and you draw a line to get you there. You’re not going to get to where you want to be by being who you are today.”
Thanks Laurie! Wow what an incredible experience that was! I am very honored to have been a part of PEAK. The community that was there became family to me. Thank each and everyone of you for showing up and being a part of the moments we shared.
You are so right Laurie. Whilst many were a bit nervous with the zipline, I was not one of them as I just looked around me, saw that everyone was going to do the zipline and just decided I was going to be a part of it. For me, I just wanted to be with the winners and the shakers and if the winners and the shakers were going to zipline, so was I and there were no 2 ways about it as far as I was concerned.
