Compliant Marketing Methods to Generate Funnel Traffic – Banners, Ad Networks

Running banner ads on high traffic targeted media properties and using ad networks are two recommended compliant ways to market online and drive traffic into your PRO funnel. PRO Marketing Director Cherie Yvette and Master Marketing Mentor Michael Force went in depth on the topic in their recent community webinar.

Best Practices for Using Banners and Ad Networks

-Use the “Top 200″ premium sites for banner advertising. These are usually news outlets (CNN, USA Today) and high traffic sites like Entrepreneur.com. A banner containing the word “entrepreneur” will attract someone predisposed to the topic. Stick to the small business-related sections of larger sites. This guarantees you receive the highest quality traffic at the lowest cost per click.

-When placing banners on a site, don’t place them on the highest traffic pages Choose pages that aren’t about transitioning the viewer onto another page (like the home page); look for pages that have good content relevant to your offer. Users will tend to be on these pages longer and interact with it more by reading something. That means they’ll be more likely to see and click your banner.

-Make sure your banner is showing “above the fold (the area of a website visible when you first get there) so people can see it when they visit that site. Banners below the fold area are still costing you per impression, but people can only see them if they scroll down to look.

-Advertise your banners on top ranked sites on Google through keyword searches. Search for your keywords on Google and find the top 10 to 20 search results. Then, contact the owners of those sites and ask them about placing your banner on their site. (Sites have different ad rates and look at the media kit or advertising tabs to investigate.) By doing this, your banner and message appear on one of the top ranking sites people search on Google for your keyword.

-Consider using ad networks.. These are the fastest growing market for advertising today. To find these, search “top 100 ad networks” on Google. They rank in size and some are more specific than others.(Networks include Advertising.com, ValueClick.com, and pulse360.) These are useful for their huge audience (over a billion clicks a day), cheaper prices than PPC, flexible compliance, simple set up, and the ability to target your niche effectively. Your ad gets distribution on sites across the web and you make just one ad purchase. The best ad networks are self-serve and allow PPC advertising.
